Harris, a member of the US Senate since 2017, launched her own presidential bid early previous year but it disintegrated when she failed to raise enough funds to sustain her campaign.

Though, Carter added, "There are a lot of people who are obviously, particularly Black women, including my wife, who are excited by the idea of a Black woman being nominated". "I feel connected to that".

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris launched their joint bid for the White House Wednesday, with vice presidential nominee Harris saying Americans are "crying out for leadership" to overcome a triple crisis of health, racial injustice and a ravaged economy.

Harris is the first Black woman to run on a major political party's presidential ticket. On the other hand, she and Bass were the two possibilities who might have persuaded a few more progressives to come to the polls, and a greater number of progressives not just to vote for the ticket but to work for it.

Bosh isn't the only person excited about Harris being on the ticket this election. Indian government officials of all parties noted the choice as historic, while actress Mindy Kaling - she once made masala dosa with Harris - deemed it "thrilling".

One reason for that might be that she had that viral moment with Vice President Biden, when she went after him on stage.

"Everything we care about", said Ms Harris.

The 74-year-old woman, who immigrated from southern India to the U.S.in the 1970s, said Harris joining the ticket felt like a family member had accomplished something.

"My heart is soaring for all the kids out there who see themselves in her and will dream bigger because of this", Washington tweeted.

"Her story's America's story", Mr Biden said.

Harris' mother came to the U.S.at a time when Indians were scarce and raised her biracial daughters with the understanding that the larger American society would see them as Black. "Her Indian heritage is not a major concern for me". "I will die Black, and I'm not going to make excuses for anybody because they don't understand".

She said Joe Biden had proven his empathy and connection with those who are suffering.

Harris said Biden, the former vice president under President Barack Obama, had recognized the critical moment being faced by the country by picking her to be the first Black woman and Asian American on a major-party US presidential ticket. On Wednesday, Harris recalled her parents' involvement in the US civil rights movement, and her friendship with Beau Biden, who was attorney general of DE when Harris was attorney general in California. After the news broke, Mythili Sampathkumar got a message from her parents embracing the landmark moment of the first woman of color to reach that pedestal in US politics. The triumph of Harris, really, is a triumph of positioning-she was the right pol in the right place at the right time. She can be both, and we can't forget one or the other.

While Biden said he and Harris "were in a battle for the soul of the nation", Harris said the moment right now "is a moment of real effect for America", encouraging voters to "vote like never before because we need more than a victory on November 3rd". She hoped Harris could unify the country. These were pre-pandemic times, so it's not likely that Harris will be able to greet people the way Palin did, but if she does she must "be honest in looking in their eyes, understanding why they're there, never forgetting they represent the innumerable Americans putting their trust in you to serve for the right reasons".

Zafar Bokhari, a Chicago State University professor who immigrated from Pakistan in the 1980s, said Harris was a role model for his children. She later backtracked on the policy.

"This is quite an achievement and I really admire the way she has presented herself", he said.
