Manchester City face Lyon in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Bernardo's home city of Lisbon, where the semi-finals and last will likewise happen.

The 30-year-old England global has warned his side not to overlook Lyon, who are brimming with confidence having knocked out Serie A champions Juventus in the previous round.

It was a fully merited victory for the English giants as they achieved their first ever victory over the record 13-time winners Real Madrid at home.

The final stages of this year's competition have been repackaged as a mini-tournament in Portugal as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The Champions League is the only competition we still haven't won at this club".

"We lost against Tottenham previous year in the quarter-finals". Knocking out Juventus speaks volumes.

"That VAR decision cost them against Tottenham a year ago and they have been unlucky on other occasions as well, but this feels like it could be their moment. For me, even more so because it's my city", he added.

City have been revolutionised since Quinn's days leading their line, with investors from Abu Dhabi transforming the club's image after they assumed ownership in 2008.

"They may not admit it in public and Guardiola has often been coy and sidestepped questions on whether the Champions League is the one they want, but now it is glaringly obvious that this is the big one for the club to go to the next level", continued Quinn.

"Of course, winning this competitors has actually constantly been a target for the gamers and the club".

It took City eight seasons in the Champions League to beat a former victor over two legs, but disposing of Madrid both home and away, pre and post football's shutdown for coronavirus showed a maturity and ability to handle pressure situations that Guardiola's men have lacked in previous Champions League campaigns.

City undoubtedly have the talent, now they also believe it is their time in the Champions League.

"I can probably speak on behalf of the whole squad and Manchester City as well for what they need to put them onto that next pedestal".
