Lucid Air EV Sedan Is Like a Next-Level Tesla

With the development of its own battery pack and core propulsion components, the establishment of new retail and service channels, and its own factory, Lucid Motors is focused not just on the 2021 Air electric luxury sedan, revealed Wednesday, but on what comes next.

Jenkins noted that the Air is "a mash-up of a few different priorities"-taking the dimensions of a mid-size sedan with the interior of a larger flagship model and the sportier roofline of a coupe-and that we can expect the same of the SUV".

During Lucid's demonstration, Rawlinson gave us a sneak peak at a new rear subframe module for the Air. A base Touring model is planned with a starting price of just under $80,000, though it isn't due until 2022. "With the Lucid Air, we have created a halo vehicle for the entire industry, one which shows the advancements that are possible by pushing the boundaries of EV technology and performance to new levels".

The Dream Edition of the Air also is one of only three production cars ever to break the 10-second barrier for the quarter-mile drag race.

With up to 1,080 horsepower available from a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive architecture, the Lucid Air in its most potent form cannot only out-accelerate any Tesla Model S or Porsche Taycan Turbo S, but also most production cars.

Vettel to drive for Aston Martin in F1 2021
However, Vettel's reputation is not what it was, after three hard years at Ferrari. It's a new adventure for me with a truly legendary auto company.

Other promised features include battery charging described as the fastest "ever offered" for an electric vehicle, more than 1,000 horsepower, a streamlined interior design and best-in-class front trunk space.

In addition to the Tesla Model S-taunting Air that was officially launched in the North American market today, Lucid's latest revelation heralds a new rival for the fellow Californian manufacturer's Model X, along with a growing number of zero-emissions SUVs from various mainstream manufacturers. The automobile can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour, in just 2.5 seconds. With a 1080 PS dual-motor setup, the Lucid Air is capable of completing a quarter-mile sprint in 9.9 seconds making it the fastest electric sedan on a quarter-mile track.

The fully equipped Air Grand Touring, available mid 2021, from $139,000.

The Air Dream Edition's range depends on the choice of wheels, with the 19-inch giving it at 503 miles (809 km) range, while the 21-inch AeroDream wheels restrict it to 465 miles (748 km).
