This pause shows we will always put safety first. The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has been named Covishield in India.

At the same time, the suspension of trials clearly showed the fallacy of the approach, when entire countries exclusively rely on novel and untested platforms when choosing a vaccine.

"Over the past five days of clinical trials of the vaccine against the coronavirus infection over 250 Moscow residents got inoculated at the seven centres that opened first".

Business Secretary Alok Sharma said: "I am immensely proud that the United Kingdom is home to two of the most promising Covid-19 vaccine candidates, backed by over £130million of government funding to speed up the search for a vaccine and end the pandemic sooner".

"Globally some 18,000 individuals have received study vaccines as part of the trial", the University of Oxford said in a recent statement.

Pauses in drug trials are commonplace but the temporary hold led to a sharp fall in AstraZeneca's share price following the announcement Tuesday.

SoftBank Nears Deal to Sell Arm to Nvidia
A NVIDIA + Arm marriage has been rumored for weeks while a deal consisting of cash and stock could come as soon as next week. However, as with most tech-related deals these days, the purchase of ARM by NVIDIA could set off antitrust alerts.

Similar vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech are at a similar stage of testing.

AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, as the trial sponsor, said that they can not disclose further medical information but confirmed that independent investigations concluded that the trials were safe to restart.

"It's really one of the safety valves that you have on clinical trials such as this", he told "CBS This Morning".

"These are the usual steps that should be taken whenever a potentially unexplained disease is present in one of the studies", the company said in a statement. The regulator also asked the company to suspend new recruitment of subjects in phase 2 and 3 clinical trials till further orders.

The fact that some pharmaceutical companies delegate the risks associated with their vaccines to countries which buy them raises additional questions, the RDIF chief said. The company's DNA based vaccine "ZyCov-D" is now undergoing human trials. Sharvil Patel, the company's managing director in an interview to CNBC-TV18, recently said the company would be building 100 million doses of capacity for the vaccine and will start manufacturing COVID vaccine if phase II data is good.

The SII has said that it would resume trials "once DCGI will give us the permission to restart the trials in India". However, one thing is certain that any vaccine invented outside China would definitely be mass produced in India.
