Vancouver now has a rating of 196 on the US air quality index (AQI), not far behind Portland, which has an index level of 218.

"Air quality is expected to gradually improve for most regions (Monday) evening and overnight as higher smoke concentrations move southward", reads the statement.

That's because Canada Post suspended service due to health risks from smoke wafting in from Washington State wildfires.

"Our run club leaders and coaches were very good about not putting the pressure on anyone to have to come out", Thai said.
