Man dead after stabbing mosque at Rexdale

Then on Saturday at around 8:40 p.m., officers say a man, who was working as a caretaker for the IMO Mosque at 65 Rexdale Blvd., was found stabbed multiple times.

"We're appealing to the public, witnesses or anyone with information about the whereabouts of Tiberio Barcelos prior to the homicide", said Alex Li, a media relations officer with the Toronto Police Service.

A second victim, a woman, was found inside the residence also suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The veteran cop said that he couldn't get into specifics regarding the similarities between both killings, but confirmed that the victims were of "similar ethnicities".

A man in his 60s is dead after a stabbing in Rexdale on Saturday evening, Toronto paramedics said.

The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

When asked over the weekend if police were investigating the death of Zafis as a possible hate crime, officers said they are not ruling out that possibility, but, at this time, the information they have does not suggest that.

"In a declaration, the firm said that they are" profoundly saddened and stunned" to find out about the episode.

"If they are connected, we are dealing with a serial killer".

Toronto Police are now looking closely at two recent homicides in which a homeless man and a mosque volunteer were both murdered within 5 kilometres of each other, a couple of days apart.

They said that the suspect "fled on foot". Police said the alleged killer has a slim build and was wearing a black hoodie and dark trousers.

Homicide detectives are asking people to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious behaviour.
