Saquon Barkley was carried off the field by trainers after a run early in the first quarter and the New York Giants fear he suffered a torn ACL.

NY confirmed Monday Barkley sustained a season-ending ACL tear.

Surgery in the near future will be needed to fix the injury followed by a long rehab process.

Barkley sustained the injury at the start of the second quarter after a five-yard gain, and was immediately doubled over in pain on the sidelines.

It was bad enough that the Giants came up empty on the final play from the Bears' 10-yard line to drop to 0-2 for the fourth straight season and seventh time in the past eight years. ESPN's Adam Schefter said in a tweet that the injury could be to Barkley's ACL.

Barkley seemed ready to take the league by storm again in 2019, though there were some roadblocks. He shook that off and got back into the game before injuring his knee.

But the Giants hoped Saquon Barkley would be ready to take on the 2020 season after an offseason of healing.

"Obviously we're all praying for the best", Giants coach Joe Judge told reporters aft.

Barkley, the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the year, scored 43 touchdowns and rushed for 3,843 yards during his three-year career at Penn State.
