Earlier this year, it was reported that Tom Cruise was in negotiations with Elon Musk and NASA to shoot his next film in space - a film which apparently will not be the next Mission: Impossible instalment. Whether that seat is an indication that Cruise is still looking for a co-star with a death wish or just space for another real-life crew member, is still unknown.

Liman is also thought to be writing the script, with Universal Pictures having committed $200 million towards production, according to Deadline.

As per reports, Christopher McQuarrie who is the writer/director on the Mission: Impossible films, will act as story advisor and producer, alongside Cruise, Liman and PJ van Sandwijk as producers. However, it is not clear if the October 2021 space tour is a part of that project.

Cruise will next be seen in the much-awaited sequel to Top Gun called Top Gun: Maverick which also stars Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly.
