Arthur Conan Doyle debuted the character in print with the story "A Study in Scarlet" in 1887.

The film has been adapted from a book series of detective novels by Nancy Springer, so, there's definitely a chance for there to be more than one instalment as there were various books! The family-friendly flick, which premiered on September 23, follows the adventures of Enola (Millie Bobby Brown), the younger sister of famed detective Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and government official Mycroft (Sam Claflin).

As the movie opens, Enola is living happily with her mother Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter), who home-schools her daughter in the liberal arts, along with archery, word games, hand-to-hand fighting, chemistry and fiercely independent thinking. When Enola wakes up on her 16th birthday to discover that her beloved mother has disappeared, she's heartbroken.

As she searches for her mother, Enola finds herself pursued by a violent man in a brown bowler (Burn Gorman) while engaging with anarchists, explosives, class upheaval, political intrigue and ... murder. British TV veteran Harry Bradbeer ("Fleabag") directs a fine cast, including Fiona Shaw as Miss Harrison, as well as Susan Wokoma, Adeel Akhtar and Frances de la Tour.

"I think it best that we keep the conversation to Enola Holmes", responded Cavill.

Did Sherlock Holmes have a sister within the authentic tales? Cavill's Holmes is probably the most dashing ever committed to screen, but is very much pushed to the shadows, whilst Caflin's Mycroft is a wonderful mixture of moustache-twitching malevolence and misguided paternal care. Enola Holmes has arrived on Netflix to show us Millie Bobby Brown in a whole new starring role from her character of Eleven in Stranger Things, and people are already wanting to know if the action packed flick will be getting a second instalment.
