Draisaitl earned 91 first-place votes out of 170 ballots cast, as the first German-born victor of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Most Valuable Player as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

Leon Draisaitl is the Hart Trophy victor. The league announced its most prominent award winners prior to Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning in Edmonton, Alberta.

MacKinnon was fifth in the National Hockey League with 93 points (35 goals, 58 assists) and third with 62 even-strength points to help the Avalanche finish with the second-best record in the Western Conference (42-20-8, .657) and qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a third straight season.

He also won the Ted Lindsay Award as the MVP voted by members of the NHL Players' Association.

The interview also shares quite a few interesting tidbits about the long-running relationship between Microsoft and Bethesda. Of course, there's also the prospect of both of those games being at least timed exclusives for the Xbox Series X .

"Dirk was obviously someone that I look up to, someone that I admire, the way he presents himself and the way he really has achieved everything that there is to achieve for a professional athlete in North America", Draisaitl told reporters Monday.

In both award races, Draisaitl beat out Nathan MacKinnon and Artemi Panarin. Makar had 50 points in 57 games, which was three less than Hughes, who appeared in 11 more games than the Colorado Avalanche star.

Vezina Trophy (goaltender): Connor Hellebuyck, Winnipeg Jets. Panarin and MacKinnon led their respective teams into the postseason with massive individual campaigns and perhaps without the same level of superstar help, but weren't able to convince voters to overlook the considerable production discrepancies after finishing with 95 and 93 points, respectively. The 21-year-old played 21 minutes a game and was the Avalanche's second-leading scorer behind MacKinnon.
