Wednesday evening the Lyons Central School District announced that a instructional staff member from the elementary school tested positive for COVID-19.

All Niskayuna schools will remain open for in-person instruction.

Maidstone Grammar School wrote to parents and carers to notify them today.

In a letter sent to district parents and posted to the district's website, High School Principal Jody Rainey said that the PA Department of Health was contacted yesterday regarding the confirmed case of Covid-19, and the Department of Health has started contact tracing efforts. "Halton Region Public Health will contact any close contacts directly". Valeski also says the close contacts illustrates the far-reaching impact just one case can have on schools. "Each decision we make is grounded in the best interest of our students and staff, meeting their educational needs in the safest way possible". "If your child or family has been in the presence of a known positive COVID-19 individual or family, keep your children home and call us immediately so we can guide you with next steps for your child's reentry to school".

Hundreds of whales dead after stranding off Australia’s Tasmania
Harnesses and stretchers are often used, sometimes to attach a whale to a boat to be dragged out to sea. The latest stranding is the first involving more than 50 whales in Tasmania since 2009.

Across the district, several younger siblings of the students who were infected are staying home as well.

"Under the direction of the Wayne County Department of Health, no additional actions are required on behalf of the District, as this staff member had minimal direct contact with students", Putnam said in the letter.

All students and staff who quarantine must be symptom-free before returning to class, the superintendent said.
