Japanese actress Yuko Takeuchi found dead at 40

In late January this year, she gave birth to her second baby boy.

Award-winning Japanese actress Yuko Takeuchi has been found dead at her Tokyo home at the age of 40.

Tokyo's Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation and suspects that Takeuchi committed suicide.

Other stars known to have died by suicide include actor Miura Harumi back in July of this year and even reality TV star Kimura Hana back in May. Takeuchi's official website at talent agency Stardust Promotion has not yet been updated.

Takeuchi, a native of Saitama Prefecture, appeared in a number of television dramas and movies, including the Asuka morning drama series broadcast by NHK between 1999 and 2000, Hayabusa, 1,778 Stories of Me and My Wife, and Golden Slumbers.

Along with her long list of acting credits, Ms Takeuchi's warm, smiling, woman-of-the-people image made her popular with advertisers, Variety Magazine reports. Her first starring turn was in the 1998 teen drama "Innocent World". Her most recent role appearance is in the movie "The Confidence Man JP: Episode of the Princess".

She won the Japanese Academy Award for best actress in a leading role for three consecutive years: "Yomigaeri" (Resurrection) in 2003; "Ima Ai ni Yukimasu" (Be with You) in 2004; and "Haru no Yuki" (Snow of Spring) in 2005.
