Now the question royal fans want to know is: Will their baby have a royal title like Eugenie does?

The Royal Family also released a statement to confirm the news and a sweet message was posted on their Instagram account too.

A tribute to Eugenie's mother Sarah and the Queen could be expected for a girl, and perhaps Andrew after the Duke of York, and Philip after the Duke of Edinburgh, as middle names for a boy.

On her account, the princess posted a photo of her and Brooksbank holding a pair of tiny booties and captioned it, "Jack and I are so excited for early 2021" with a baby emoji.

The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, is celebrating the announcement that her daughter, Princess Eugenie, and husband Jack Brooksbank are expecting a baby early next year. Three of the snaps had stylised words pasted over them, petrol station greetings card-style, including a black-and-white image of Eugenie and Brooksbank staring at some trees.

Meanwhile, Ivy Cottage is flawless for expectant parents Eugenie and Jack; the smaller residence is thought to comprise just three bedrooms.

Eugenie's baby will be their ninth great-grandchild, along with Savannah and Isla Phillips; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis of Cambridge; Mia and Lena Tindall; and Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

Several royal birthdays fall at the start of the year - including Eugenie's on 23 March - meaning the child could share a birthday with another royal.

Royal titles are generally passed down through the male line, meaning that Eugenie - who carries the title of HRH (Her Royal Highness) - can't pass her title to her child.

It also underwent extensive renovation work over the last few years, so has no doubt been transformed into the ideal starter family home.

Shortly after that, the princess posted an adorable update to her own social media handle as well.

The royal family - like most big families - is pretty complex, with several branches and what seems like hundreds of relations.

That said, the is another way the child could still get a title and that is only if the queen offers them one for the baby. "Welcoming a new baby into the York family is going to be a moment of profound joy".

Eleventh in line. The Queen's youngest son the Earl of Wessex, who was third in line when he was born in 1964, will drop to 12th place.
