MDH reports 5 new COVID-19 deaths, 817 more cases

Island Health spokesperson Cheryl Bloxham declined to say Tuesday where the patients had traveled.

Of the county's 1,224 total cases since March 11, 990 people have recovered or are recovering, 92 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 17 have died.

Commenting on the figures, Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health, said: "Public buy-in and willingness to adhere to public health guidance remains the frontline of our defence against the spread of Covid-19".

The area encompassing Kansas City and Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties on the Kansas side gained 310 cases for a total of 39,185 to date.

The state Department of Health on Monday reported 439 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, giving the state 85,830 cases and 2,100 deaths.

Earlier on Monday, Mosaic Life Care reported 51 current hospitalizations in St. Joseph and Maryville. They include one woman in her 40s, one woman in her 50s, one man in his 70s, three men and two women in their 80s, two men in their 90s and a woman in her 100s. The positivity rate for reported cases Tuesday was 9.65%, which is the highest it has been since September 19 when it was 10.27%.

Of the county's cases, 33 are confirmed and 10 probable.

Erie County has reported 1,552 cases, or 570.5 per 100,000.

Most of the region's cases have been identified in patients between the ages of 20 and 39 years old.
