Fernando Alonso 'excited' and sure Renault can maintain F1 form

Renault has such a vehicle ready to go, as it ran Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon in a two-day test in Austria before the start of the season.

Alonso's partnership with Renault is a homecoming of sorts for the 32-time Grand Prix victor who both his world championship titles with the manufacturer. "Most important thing is to follow the trend that we see now, keep the momentum into next year, especially for 2022, and I think we know how to do it".

Fernando Alonso is not anxious about failing to get back up to speed ahead of his return from a two-year sabbatical in 2021.

With the 39-year-old double world champion's enthusiasm raised ahead of his F1 return, Abiteboul added: "The situation is obviously very positive. Returning to F1 speed isn't that easy, but every lap I did better". "After two years not driving in Formula One, I'm really looking forward to it".

"I know I will learn and discover a lot of things during those laps".

"Fernando is like a big shark, as soon as he starts to feel the blood, he wants to attack".
