India's Tour Down Under Gets Green Signal From Australian Government

Melbourne will be the venue for Boxing Day, to be played between December 26-30, but Adelaide has also been kept as the backup option for the Boxing Day Test. Adelaide will host the Boxing Day Test if the coronavirus pandemic poses any hindrance for the match from taking place at MCG.

Kohli and teammates will be able to train while quarantining in Sydney, although at this stage it is unclear what size of groups will be permitted.

The Sydney Morning Herald said the New South Wales government had approved CA's plans only 72 hours after they were lodged, clearing the way for the tourists to arrive in Sydney and play the short form matches there and in Canberra.

Updated games, including warm-up games for the test series, must now be checked off by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) - a standard courtesy given to all touring teams for worldwide schedules - while the Home Office will also need to do the charter flight authorize.

The Indian team's support staff along with Test specialists Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari are scheduled to fly to Dubai either on Monday or Tuesday next week. Upon landing in Sydney, they'll begin their quarantine in a plush hotel in the vicinity of Sydney's Olympic Park. The tour will get underway with the first two ODIs on November 27 and 29 are set to be played at the SCG, the third ODI on December 1 and the first T20I on December 4 will take place at Canberra's Manuka Oval, before the teams return to Sydney for the final two T20Is at the SCG on December 6 and 8. The Adelaide Oval remains primed as the back-up in case the restrictions around Melbourne aren't lifted further by the end of the year.

The matches in Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane is expected to see crowds too, even if the overall number will be restricted.

India's tour to Australia received a go-ahead from Australian government on Thursday. The final Test will conclude on January 7, 2021 which will be followed with a three-match ODI series.
