UFC lightweight champion Nurmagomedov said on Saturday, following his victory over United States opponent Justin Gaethje at the UFC 254 tournament in Abu Dhabi, that the match was the last fight of his career.

"I fight for a living, the best thing about being choked out is that there's nothing consequential to your health".

"I know he was in a bad spot, but whether he was or not, he did what he needed to do", Gaethje said.

"There's no way I'm going to be back without my father".

"Six to eight weeks I want to fight again".

Nurmagomedov said in the post-fight interview that he talked to his mother for three days before deciding to accept the fight against Gaethje in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.

"Congrats bro! Your father is proud of you", wrote the Juventus forward in a message on his Instagram stories, sharing a TV image of an overwhelmed Khabib immediately after his victory.

"God gave me everything".

Despite Calgary being in the same situation Edmonton was two weeks ago, Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hinshaw said the rise in Calgary is "concerning", but no decisions have yet been made on further voluntary measures.

Khabib Nurmagomedov left viewers stunned on Saturday night after announcing his retirement from MMA, with sports stars rushing to pay tribute to the fighter.

"All this UFC team, everybody, they made a great show".

"Thank you so much Justin". One day something will happen for you, you never know what is going to happen tomorrow.

In an interview with BT Sport in the build-up to UFC 254, Khabib said he was planning to take time off afterwards to visit England and watch some Premier League matches, while he has previously been spotted in the stands at games in his native Russian Federation as well as at the likes of French champions PSG.

Using both punches and kicks to nail the round, Khabib amps up the pressure and gets a takedown before getting him into before making Gaethke tap in triangle position.

Gaethke's leg kick misses.

Overall, Khabib has finished opponents in 20 of his 28 career victories, including 10 by submission, but he has seen six of his 12 UFC wins come by decision.
