The COVID-19 vaccine being developed by the University of Oxford produces a similar immune response in both older and younger adults, and adverse responses were lower among the elderly, British drug maker AstraZeneca Plc AZN.L said on Monday.

A vaccine that works is seen as a game-changer in the battle against the novel coronavirus, which has killed more than 1.15 million people, hammered the global economy and shuttered normal life across the world.

The Financial Times reported earlier that the vaccine, being developed by Oxford and AstraZeneca, triggers protective antibodies and T-cells in older age groups - among those most at risk from the virus. It cited two people familiar with the finding.

J&J said that the safety panel, called a Data and Safety Monitoring Board, has recommended that the drugmaker resume trial recruitment after finding no evidence that the vaccine caused the volunteer to fall ill.

But the FT cautioned that positive immunogenicity tests do not guarantee that the vaccine will ultimately prove safe and effective in older people. It did not name the publication.

Still, results are expected in the early morning hours the day after Election Day. Erie County voters can check the status of their absentee ballot here.

Oxford and AstraZeneca did not immediately respond to a request by Reuters for comment.

Mazumdar-Shaw said that it was likely that the vaccine will be available in the country by June, but pointed out that delivering the vaccine to all Indians will be challenging.

"The first vaccines that we think are going to come out are highly cold chain sensitive, which means we have to have freezing down to -70, perhaps -80 degrees", Pima County Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen said during Tuesday's city council meeting, according to outlet KOLD.

AstraZeneca resumed the U.S. trial of the experimental vaccine after approval by United States regulators, the company said on Friday. "This partner involvement and feedback is so critical to making sure that Arizona has the best possible plan for vaccine distribution, and also includes the development and implementation of training and exercises to inform the state's pandemic vaccine response".

Noting that the central government would announce the launch date of the vaccine after its production was commenced, Sudhakar said other priority groups, including senior citizens and people with co-morbidities would be vaccinated in a phased manner after the healthcare warriors.
