'Mr. Bojangles' Hitmaker Jerry Jeff Walker Dies of Cancer at 78

Walker was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2017. Jerry's former publicist told TMZ that his wife told him to prepare an obituary two months ago.

Tributes poured in for the musician online after the news broke, with one fan writing: "Rest In Peace Jerry Jeff Walker".

"He was at home until an hour before his passing", Susan Walker, the singer's wife, told the Austin American-Statesman. "He went very relaxed and we were very grateful". His inmate only ever identified himself as Mr Bojangles. "Unlike Willie, Jerry Jeff is the hottest musician to have happened in Austin, Texas, I have to say", Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel told the Tennessee newspaper. "And for that, he'll be eternal, because there's all these kids today who write songs in that mode".

In the mid-1980s, Walker and his wife formed their own label, Tried & True Music, which they ran out of their home in Austin. The local label handled Walker's booking, tour promotion, products and advertising all.

"We make it out of the air", Walker said, comparing his brand to that of the more well-known companies. "These people don't have any idea about how it goes than we do", Jerry added.
