Unemployment Numbers Continue to Drop in South Dakota

While some states last week saw an increase in first-time jobless claims, initial claims in Oklahoma declined 22% from the previous week, according to a government report.

He said people are becoming employee and this decrease in unemployment claims goes beyond simply hiring for the holiday season. That's an increase of 605 claims, or 0.3%, over the previous week.

There were 53,138 new unemployment claims filed during the week of October 19 in IL.

Thursday's report also revised last week's applications by 6,000. This total includes both traditional unemployment claims and claims for extended benefits.

Gov. Mike DeWine on Wednesday threatened to again shut down bars, restaurants, and fitness centers next week if the number of new coronavirus cases keeps going up.

In the week ending November 7, the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits decreased by 48,000 from the previous week's upwardly revised level of 757,000, Xinhua news agency quoted a report released on Thursday by the Department's Bureau of Labour Statistics as saying.

The increase in filings comes as the number of new coronavirus cases has surged in OH for several weeks, though it's not clear how numerous jobless claims were a direct result of the virus.

Illinois' estimated claims were among 709,000 total filed across the country last week.

Jobless claims have not been this low since the week ending March 14, when 282,000 Americans filed for aid, shortly before the virus-induced crisis triggered a flood of layoffs.

Since the pandemic started, ODJFS has distributed more than $7.2 billion in unemployment compensation payments to more than 839,000 Ohioans.
