Group rallies at Camas district headquarters for in-person school

Several new coronavirus cases were reported at the Hempfield Area School District this week, Superintendent Tammy Wolicki confirmed.

She called the situation "unfortunate" and "disappointing" that went against the protocols the school board has in place and urged any staff members who are feeling unwell to stay home.

"Testing is an important tool in the fight against COVID when used as part of a broader, comprehensive approach", said Dr. Sayone Thihalolipavan, a medical consultant with Public Health Services of the County of San Diego Health & Human Services Agency.

The Phillipsburg School District will continue with all remote learning through Friday, Jan. 8, Superintendent Gregory Troxell announced Tuesday. "If there is a need for anyone else to self-quarantine, they will be contacted directly by a member of the Fairfield Health Department Contact Tracing Team".

Schools in Brookfield, Fairfield, and Milford will all be switching to distance learning - some through the rest of the year - due to new cases in students and district staff members.

In Marion County, 25 positive COVID-19 cases were reported last week among 16 students and nine employees, while 207 students and 24 employees were quarantined because of direct contact to someone suffering from the virus.

Vista is also collaborating with UCSD on a study to detect the presence of COVID-19 infection in school facilities through wastewater and surface monitoring.

The new cases bring the district total to 11 positive cases for the period between November 2-16.

High-risk contacts, including some other staff members at the school, have been notified to self-isolate. Hybrid learning in the district of about 2,200 students began on September 8.

The WRDSB has since clarified that they couldn't confirm whether or not the person was symptomatic, but that public health officials had said the person was at work while infectious and awaiting their test results.
