Binghamton University Returning to Remote-Only Classes

As fall break approaches, University of Iowa students are torn between travelling home - and potentially exposing family members or themselves to COVID-19 - or remaining Iowa City, missing the opportunity to spend time with their families. Officials did not respond to questions about how many tests were available.

As a result, they designed a weekly prize drawing, which includes different kinds of gifts beginning November 2, such as gift cards to the bookstore, an Apple TV and an Amazon Fire Stick. Some schools are encouraging all their students not to go home for the break, and are offering alternative activities and turkey meals, the typical centerpiece on most American dinner tables for Thanksgiving.

"When I first started everything was fine with COVID-19, the cases were low", Olivera said.

Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger spoke alongside SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras and Broome County Executive Jason Garnar to announce the decision to move classes online. Continuing this trend, last week, out of 14,117 tests conducted on students, only 11 positive cases were detected.

"All residents have the ability to get tested weekly", Shannon Corey, the interim director and associate director of residence life, said.

At this point, it's the safest option for the students and the school but it's tough from a student's perspective.

Lawrence said testing and quarantine are key to controlling the spread of COVID-19 among college campuses.

"I think that UTC has taken the proper precautions for those who are going home over thanksgiving break".

"However, when I go outside, I sometimes see students with their masks down, which concerns me a bit".

"If students are going to be coming back, there has to be a combination of testing if they're going to be on campus, and quarantining, even if they're just going to be off-campus in off-campus apartments", said Lawrence.

Because cases of COVID-19 are reaching record highs, schools are trying to mitigate the impact students might have on spreading the virus.

Theo Epstein steps down as Cubs president after nine seasons
Epstein said in a statement he will "cherish" his time with the Cubs and said it was simply time to make a change. He built a World Series champion in 2004 - the Sox hadn't won a world title in 86 years - and another in 2007.

"Even if the on-campus COVID testing is convenient, it is not completely flawless", Patel said. "There is not enough social distancing at the testing site".

Private colleges and universities are using similar protocols.

A survey done by The New York Times shows that USA colleges reported over 210,000 cases, the University of Georgia had over 4,000 cases, and Georgia Tech had over 900. "These measures are being taken in the best interest of the health and well-being of our campus community".

This is why doubling up on protective efforts like masks and social distancing is still important.

The numbers continue to rise, especially here in Western New York where our positivity rate is the highest in the entire state. "University Housing is encouraging all of these methods on a consistent basis".

The University of Alabama (37,842 students), too, will resume classes after the break, and will offer exit testing for the Thanksgiving and winter breaks for students who request it.

After a surge of protests all over the country that led to a rapid result of positive cases, the U.S.'s total number surpassed 10 million.

Faculties can also request for larger classrooms to ensure safety while encouraging more students to show up. Olian and Chief Student Experience Officer Tom Ellett revealed that some Quinnipiac students who attended the event had been sent home for the remainder of the semester due to their reckless behavior.

Amid the pandemic, Georgia State continues to work to provide a safe campus and high-quality academics.

The Perimeter campuses have one testing site each.
