Man United's Alex Telles available after testing negative for Covid

The Brazilian returned to action with the national on Saturday as a late substitute in 1-0 win over Venezuela, though is now a doubt for the clash against Uruguay in Montevideo after recording a positive test for Covid-19 - the second time the full-back has tested positive for the virus.

Manchester United were aware of the reports that Telles had tested positive and said their medical staff would assess the player on his return to England later this week.

Manchester United are checking on Alex Telles' well-being and availability after reports emerged that the left-back had again tested positive for Covid-19.

The Brazilian left-back has been missed four games since his arrival from FC Porto but with Luke Shaw out with a hamstring injury, Telles looks set to take his place.

"The defender already had the disease, was asymptomatic and with the non-transmissible condition of the virus, but he could not travel to Uruguay".

United said in a statement: 'The club is checking on the situation regarding Alex Telles and will assess the defender upon his return to Manchester from worldwide duty later this week.

The 27-year-old was expected to return to action when West Brom arrive at Old Trafford this weekend after he completed his isolation period and rebuilt his fitness after resuming full training with the rest of the squad earlier this month.

Telles will now be available for selection when United welcome West Brom to Old Trafford for a crucial Premier League encounter on Saturday.

Telles was called-up to the Brazilian squad for their World Cup qualifiers during the current global break and made a substitute appearance during their 1-0 win over Venezuela last Friday night.
