Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has dig at worldwide break

Doherty tested positive for COVID-19 after playing full 90 minutes in both Ireland's fixtures during the November break.

Kwon Chang-hoon, Lee Dong-jun, Hwang In-beom, Na Sang-ho, Kim Moon-hwan and goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo are the players who have tested positive, the KFA earlier confirmed to AFP.

Several global footballers have tested positive in the last week, including Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Browne.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager suggested protocols for covid-19 safety during the worldwide break do not help club managers.

Doherty also played the entirety of that game, as did Spurs midfielder Harry Winks, while Harry Kane and Eric Dier were on the bench.

Mourinho posted his photo on Instagram and taking a dig at the global break, the Tottenham Hotspur manager wrote: "Amazing week of football".

In a season when managers have repeatedly raised their concerns about fatigue and player welfare, worldwide breaks have been expanded to allow countries to play three matches, rather than the usual two - so Mourinho can't breathe easy just yet. Great emotions in the national team matches, superb friendlies and total safety.

The defender played in Sunday's 1-0 defeat against Wales but will now miss Tottenham's matches with Manchester City and Chelsea after his test result came back positive. "After another training session with only six players, it is now time to take care of myself". The Qatar game will go ahead if at least 13 players are Covid-free in the latest test results, which are due later on Monday, an official said.

"But sometimes, when the opposition are doing a one-two he'll switch off and they'll get in behind him and that's what's frustrating for Jose Mourinho and that's why he's not probably played as much this season".
