While the vehicle revealed today may be badged a "Prototype", the Civic Prototype can be seen as a near-final, production-ready representation of the next-generation 2022 Civic sedan which, if Honda's recent form with prototype concepts holds true, should likely debut in production form sometime in the next six to nine months. The 11 generation Honda was shown via Twitch in a bid to spice up the traditional auto reveal, and to appear to younger buyers.

In a win for enthusiasts, USA media reports that Si and Type R variants will retain their manual transmissions.

The interior, shown only as a sketch, features a simple, horizontal dashboard inspired by early Civics that has a digital instrument cluster, tablet-style infotainment system and a strip of honeycomb trim meant to better hide the air vents.

At the back, too, the new Civic's styling is far simpler compared to the current Civic.

More cues taken from the Accord can be seen at the rear, as the Civic's boot lid also features a subtle ducktail on it.

In creating the 11th-generation Civic, Honda has given the sedan a low and wide stance with a more sophisticated and upmarket design than the outgoing model.

The Japanese Honda carmaker has revealed its Honda Civic 2022 in prototype form with many design changes on the exterior, interior, and multiple tech additions with a range of safety features. On the inside, the design has been focussed on the spaces clean and uncluttered. In a first, the new Civic will also come with a full-digital instruments display, and another highlight will be a honeycomb mesh finish that spans the width of the dash and subtly incorporates the AC vents. "Civic has always exceeded expectations, and the all-new Civic will continue that legacy of setting the standard for compact cars with human-centred design, outstanding dynamics, style, safety performance, and driver enjoyment", said Dave Gardner, executive vice president of National Operations, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The real 2022 Honda Civic likely won't show up until early next year before hitting dealerships shortly thereafter. Even as automakers, including Honda, unveil more crossover SUVs and some even drop sedan models altogether, the Civic remains crucial to Honda's success. In fact, the overall profile also looks rather similar between the two models, with reference to the Civic's sloping roofline. That's not including the hot Honda Civic Type R hatchback, which starts at $37,495 for 2021.

The new Civic will go on sale in the late spring starting with the sedan version.
