After the trio agreed on the final draft, she hand-wrote the letter to Thomas, which was ultimately published by the Mail on Sunday. The reason behind her sharing was her father, Thomas Markle's claims about her cutting him out of her life would be mentioned in the book. Markle is embroiled in a legal fight with a tabloid over publishing her private letters to her father.

Her lawyers argue that despite external collaboration, there was no discussion about the letter being used as part of a "media strategy" to enhance her image.

The document said that due to her "distress" at media coverage of her father "and as the newest member of the royal family who wanted to follow protocol, the claimant sought advice from two senior members of the royal family on how best to address the situation".

A new HollywoodLife source close to the Duchess said "With [son] Archie, they had a lot of pressure to share the news with the public".

She is seeking damages from the publisher for alleged misuse of private information, copyright infringement and breach of the Data Protection Act. Once she had made a decision to write it, she informed her close confidante Jason Knauf, Kensington Palace communications secretary at the time, who had been speaking to Mr Markle on a regular basis in the run-up to her wedding. The document did not name the members of the royal family consulted by Meghan.

Meghan Markle has been estranged from her father Thomas Markle since tying the knot to Prince Harry in a lavish ceremony in 2018

Markle, an American actress and star of TV legal drama Suits, married Harry, a grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, in a lavish ceremony at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

Meghan and her father have not spoken since he pulled out days before her wedding to Harry in May 2018 because of ill health but subsequently gave a number of media interviews. Now that the couple has settled comfortably in their Santa Barbara home post-Megxit, rumors have circulated that the Sussexes may be expecting their second child.

The Duchess of Sussex has revealed that both her husband Prince Harry and Kensington Palace's then communications secretary Jason Knauf gave her feedback before she wrote a letter to her estranged father Thomas Markle.

The Duchess of Sussex, however, "does not know to what extent or in what terms this one item of information concerning her communications with her father was shared with the authors", the lawyers added.

A 10-day trial scheduled for January was recently postponed for at least nine months after the Duchess won a delay on confidential grounds. However, in a ruling earlier yesterday, the judge Mark Warby said Markle did not appear to be an important witness in the case and it was inaccurate to view it as a family battle.
