Toronto Raptors to play home games in Tampa to open season

Assuming the Raptors play all 36 of their home games this season in Tampa, seven teams - Atlanta, Miami, Washington, Orlando, Charlotte, Brooklyn and Philadelphia will be scheduled to visit there twice.

The Raptors reportedly considered playing in Louisville, Ky., and New Jersey.

"These conversations were productive, and we found strong support for the protocols we put forward", Ujiri continued.

The federal government denied the Blue Jays' request to play in Toronto this year because health officials didn't think it was safe for players to travel back and forth from the USA, one of the countries hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Toronto Raptors have been looking for a new home for the 2020-21 season after the Canadian government denied them the ability to play home games at Scotiabank Arena.

He says the Raptors remain committed to "doing all we can to promote and demonstrate public health measures to help combat the spread of COVID-19 in Canada".

The 72-game National Basketball Association season is scheduled to start on December 22, with training camps scheduled to open on December 1. Over the past few weeks, there were negotiations into where the Raptors would play next, and some though Louisville or Buffalo were the most likely options.

The Toronto Blue Jays know what it feels like to be displaced. Major League Soccer franchises in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal also relocated to the USA during the season.

Amalie Arena is also home of the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning.

"It is exciting and it gives us something to be proud of our city for and take our mind off things in a year that has been particularly challenging for a lot of people", said Franz. "They say absence makes the heart grow fonder", Ujiri said.

Unfortunately for the Toronto Raptors, this is simply not possible as the Canada-US border remains closed.
