Twenty three years later, Woods is in with his own son.

Tiger Woods will compete alongside his 11-year-old son Charlie in December's PNC Championship, tournament officials announced on Thursday. This year's event, which will broadcast on Sky Sports in the United Kingdom, will be held from December 17-20 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. "It's been great watching him progress as a junior golfer and it will be incredible playing as a team together in the PNC Championship", Woods said.

Gary Player, Greg Norman, Lee Janzen, Tom Kite, John Daly and Mark O'Meara, as well as Retief Goosen, Tom Lehman, Padraig Harrington, Lee Trevino and Vijay Singh are among the many major champions returning to participate.

Woods has caddied for his son in junior events, and one moment that got plenty of attention was the father of another junior trying to capture video of Woods, with Charlie and his smooth swing in the background.

Thomas will partner his father Mike - a PGA professional - and Annika Sorenstam will be paired with her dad, while Player will again tee it up alongside his grandson.

Charlie already has made a name for himself as an accomplished junior golfer in Florida. Johnston said sons of Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer each played at about the same age.

No fans will be allowed at the Florida tournament but it will be televised in the United States by NBC.

Tiger Woods: America's Son was created by ESPN's The Undefeated, a content platform focusing on exploring the intersection of sports, race and culture.

"Tiger loves spending time with Charlie on the golf course, but he has a completely different vibe than Earl had while working with him", the insider said. He's asking me the right questions. It's a lot like doing things for me and my dad, "Woods said, speaking of his father's genuine pride". The format is a 36-hole scramble, and the victor gets the Willie Park Trophy. The Hero World Challenge he hosts in the Bahamas, scheduled for December 3-6, was cancelled because of travel issues linked to the pandemic.
