He also called on the G20 to increase "investments in biodiversity, climate action and ecosystem restoration".

Three G20 leaders participating in the summit have been infected by the coronavirus this year: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Trump.

The communique offered no details on how the effort will be funded.

The EU also promoted a recovery based on green, inclusive, sustainable, resilient and digital growth in line with the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

But the group's leaders face mounting pressure to help stave off possible credit defaults across developing nations.
