It was labeled as part of a league-wide "Reverse Retro" program where all 31 NHL teams would pay homage to their heritage.

The NHL on Monday displayed a new jersey for each of its 31 teams, looking to create some buzz at a time when there are no games.

While honouring the team's inaugural National Hockey League season in 1979, the newest sweater combines the team's look from the 1980s with the current colourway, with the iconic logo once worn by Winnipeg greats like Dale Hawerchuk's, tweaked with a light blue jet and "Winnipeg" lettering instead of the classic red, on what the team is calling a "fighter grey" jersey.

Woods to play with Charlie in father-son tournament
No fans will be allowed at the Florida tournament but it will be televised in the United States by NBC . It's a lot like doing things for me and my dad, "Woods said, speaking of his father's genuine pride".

According to the team, the jersey will be available to purchase beginning December 1.

Brian Jennings, NHL chief brand officer and senior executive vice-president, said "NHL team jerseys have long carried deep historical significance for avid and casual hockey fans".

If you have a few minutes, check out some of the other alternate jerseys. The league is not planning to return to a full bubble format that it used to complete the 2019-20 season and playoffs. "But as we started to come to grips with the realities of launching it in the offseason, essentially, I've actually really come to be excited about it". Their white jerseys include a cartoon Duck breaking through ice, a call back to the alternate uniform the team wore during its inaugural season in 1995-96. It was dark times after that period, though.
