Ken Jennings will be first interim ‘Jeopardy!’ host

Jennings will be the first interim guest host following the death of Alex Trebek.

After the news broke, Jennings humbly commented, "There will only ever be one Alex Trebek, but I'm honored to be helping Jeopardy! out with this in January".

The 46-year-old Jennings, who has more than $4 million in career game show earnings, including his January 2020 $1 million win in the prime-time special tournament, "Jeopardy!: The Greatest of All Time", has been widely speculated as in the running for the permanent job.

"We will resume production on 11/30 with a series of interim guest hosts from the Jeopardy! family - starting with Ken Jennings", the show's official Twitter account said.

Additionally, it has been announced that in memory of Trebek, "Jeopardy" will air 10 of his best episodes the weeks of December 21 and December 28, 2020.

Jennings was named a consulting producer on the show in September, which meant he presented his own video categories, developed projects, assisted with contestant outreach and served as a general "Jeopardy!" ambassador. The game of answers and questions will go back into production with Jennings as host beginning on Monday, November 30. He's already etched his name in "Jeopardy!" lore thanks to his 74-game winning streak.

Trebek, the beloved host of the show, tragically passed away two weeks ago at the age of 80 after a battle with cancer. Executive Producer Mike Richards. "That's all I need to say goodbye, because it's going to be the last show". Trebek did not know the last show he recorded - taped October 29, 10 days before his death - would be his last episode. That plan has changed. The first week of guest-hosted episodes will air the week of January 11, 2021.
