Mads Mikkelsen confirmed to replace Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beasts 3

"Fantastic Beasts 3" will now open in theaters on July 15, 2022, one week after "Captain Marvel 2", which is currently slated to open July 8.

The movie, due for release on July 15, 2022, is now in production at Warner Bros.

Danish actor, Mads Mikkelsen is to replace Johnny Depp as rogue wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series, Warner Bros have announced, BBC reports.

Mikkelsen, 55, who is known for his role as serial killer Hannibal Lecter in the USA television series Hannibal, will play the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the spinoff movie from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.

The film festival shared on its official social media accounts a picture of Depp flashing a smile behind the makeshift jail cell.

On November 6, Depp wrote in a statement posted on Instagram that he had been asked by Warner Bros.to resign from the role.

Depp added, "I'd like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty".
