FBI warns of armed protests ahead of Biden’s inauguration

Trump also argued there was nothing wrong with his speech at a rally outside the White House on Wednesday, when he urged his supporters to march on the Capitol, where the House and the Senate were ceremonially counting the electoral votes to formalize Biden's victory. Warnings have also been rampant on social media, with people sharing word of the march meant to disrupt the ceremonial transfer of power.

Other Republicans who represent Western Pennsylvania in Congress have been relatively mum on the latest calls for Trump's removal.

In the aftermath of the attack on the Capitol, Trump eventually promised an orderly transfer of power on January 20, the day of Biden's inauguration.

Our sources say the members have all been told they can get security for themselves if there is a "direct threat" to them, and that's already the case with many members of Congress.

"The president's threat to America is urgent, and so too will be our action", said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday.

Mark Pitcavage, a senior research fellow at the Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism, said authorities in state capitals and other major cities besides Washington should prepare for the possibility of violent protests next week.

A total of 15,000 National Guard members have now been activated and will deploy to Washington, D.C., to help provide security in the run up to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

Last week, the US Capitol was breached by crowds of Trump supporters, who besieged the building and disrupted a congressional session certifying the election results.

"On the impeachment, it's really a continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of politics", Trump said, adding: "I think it's causing tremendous danger to our country". "I want no violence".

On Saturday in St. Paul, About 100 Trump supporters gathered the State Capitol, waving flags, chanting, praying and expressing support for the president's discounted election grievances.

The riots followed weeks of online calls for violence in Washington in the waning days of Donald Trump's presidency.

Asked if Biden should still do a traditional outside inauguration given the information he has received, Lamb said if Biden wants to have one outside, he will be there beside him.

In another effort to remove Trump from office, the House Democrats presented on Monday a resolution that calls on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment of the Constitution, which allows the vice president and the Cabinet to remove a president deemed unable to serve.

It has been widely reported that Mr Trump and Mr Pence did not speak between the Capitol riot and today's meeting.

Democrats and several Republicans have decried Trump's role in inciting a mob that went on to force its way into the Capitol in a chaotic scene that left five people dead.
