The former world number one and 15-time major victor confirmed he received a microdiscectomy procedure in a short statement released via his Twitter account, with discomfort experienced during the PNC Championship in December bringing about the intervention.

He turned 45 at the end of past year, and his surgery count is now up to 10 - five on his left knee, five on his back.

According to the statement, Woods will miss next week's Farmers Insurance Open and the Genesis Invitational, where he is the host and the proceeds from the event benefit his foundation.

He's undergone multiple back procedure's over his career, the last of which - prior to this microdiscectomy - came in 2017.

Tiger Woods is set for a delayed start to 2021 after undergoing yet another procedure on his bothersome back.

Treasury nominee Janet Yellen to say USA does not seek weaker dollar
Her nomination has the backing of all the living former Treasury secretaries, both Democrats and Republicans. Republican Senator Mike Crapo said he would work towards an "expeditious" confirmation for Yellen.

"I look forward to begin training and am focused on getting back out on Tour", Woods said in the statement in which his doctors deemed the operation successful and predicted a full recovery. He also had microdiscectomy surgery three times in 2014 and 2015. He had a spinal fusion surgery that eventually allowed him to return to the sport in the fall of 2017.

"My body just has moments where it just doesn't work like it used to", he said in November.

Woods, who played in the PNC Championship with his son Charlie, was spotted wincing on the range at the December tournament.

"Granted, I'm a lot older now, so things change, they evolve".

Two years later, he won The Masters at Augusta National, ending an 11-year major drought. His best finish in the seven post-COVID events he played was 37th at the Memorial tournament in July, while he missed a number of tournaments he traditionally plays, such as the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which he's won eight times, and the prestigious Players Championship.
