Acer Incorporated : Releases Pair of New 11-inch Chromebooks for Education

With Zero-touch enrollment, IT departments can drop ship both the Acer Chromebook 511 and Acer Chromebook 311, which will automatically enroll into school administration as soon as the end user connects to the internet.

Acer says the notebook should get up to 12 hours of battery life, but there's also a battery level indicator on the front cover, allowing teachers to see at a glance if a student's device needs to be plugged in.

The Acer TravelMate Spin B3's touch display is covered with a layer of Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass that has been specially formulated to reduce the growth of odor and stain-causing microorganisms. The laptop is claimed to last up to 20 hours on a single charge and comes with 4G LTE connectivity. It is capable of withstanding up to 330 ml (11.6 fl oz) of water, and its keys have been mechanically anchored with two wings that extend out under the chassis, protecting them from removal by restless hands and sticky fingers. Spin 512 will be available in North America in April and in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in March, with prices starting at US$430 and Euro 399, respectively. Plastic coatings on the computer have been certified under the ASTM F963-16 Toy Safety Standard. Both are powered by the same Intel Celeron processors with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 64 GB of storage. The Acer TravelMate Spin B3 is powered by Intel's Pentium Silver processor and offers up to 12 hours of battery life. The 311 dispatches this month in North America and is valued beginning at $299.99, while the 511 is coming in April beginning at $399.99. They'll dispatch in Europe in March for €269 and €399 individually.

Intel Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax MU-MIMO connectivity, USB 3.2 Type-C ports, two reinforced USB 3.2 Type A ports, and Bluetooth 5.1 are supported as well.

"The Acer Chrome OS devices support multi-user sign-in, so each student can simply log onto their unique account where their projects, Gmail and other information are kept safe, even if the Chromebook is lost or stolen", Acer said. Weighing in at just 1.3kg, the Acer Chromebook 511 is large enough to carry between classes for students of all ages.
