Payette responded at the time that she took the allegations very seriously.

"There are obviously some very serious and concerning findings in that report with respect to the workplace, and the Governor General informed us last evening that she would offer her resignation and we received that this afternoon", he said.

Governor General Julie Payette, Queen Elizabeth II's representative in Canada, resigned Thursday ahead of the release of a reportedly scathing report on workplace harassment claims levelled against her office.

In a excerpt from the letter, Payette issued an apology for rising tensions inside Rideau Hall.

On Thursday, Ms Payette said in a statement that she had come to the conclusion that a new governor general should be appointed. Canadians deserve stability in these uncertain times. CBC News first reported accounts by employees at Rideau Hall that Payette had yelled at and publicly humiliated staff members.

Trudeau's Liberal government has not indicated if or when it will release the almost 200-page third-party review of the workplace issues at Rideau Hall, in which dozens of public servants and former employees were reportedly interviewed.

Allegations of the existence of a "toxic" climate at Rideau Hall surfaced last July in a CBC network report based on anonymous testimony from a dozen employees or ex-employees.

Confirmation from Ottawa that Governor General Julie Payette has stepped down from her post.

A fundamental help since she explained: " I remember that the backstage at the Burberry show was the hardest day with nausea ". Hadid shared a picture of herself kissing her daughter on the cheek, but with the baby nearly entirely out of the frame.

I wish him the best as he seeks an individual to recommend to Her Majesty as the next Governor General of Canada and I wish the best to my successor. The prime minister said he would submit recommendations for Ms Payette's replacement to the Queen "in due course".

The resignation of a governor general, especially under such circumstances, is unprecedented in Canada's history.

Shortly after she took the job, it emerged that Payette had been charged with second-degree assault while living in Maryland in 2011. The governor general is also the commander-in-chief and gives royal assent to Canadian laws. "It appears this was not always the case at the Office of the Secretary to the Governor General", said Payette.

She called the charged unfounded, and it has since been expunged.

Both incidents raised immediate questions about how thoroughly she had been vetted for the job, and accusations she wasn't the right fit for it have dogged her ever since. "I wish to extend my thanks to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his trust and for offering me this incredible opportunity".

While the Governor General is a largely symbolic position, it does have some constitutional importance, particularly during a minority government such as the one Canada has now.

During an interview on RED FM's The Harjinder Thind Show in Vancouver in September he said she was excellent.
