Wintry Weather Possible This Weekend

Residents in cities like New York City and Philadelphia could see snowflakes flying Friday and Friday night.

"The air forecast to flow across part of the Upper Midwest and into the Northeast into this weekend is Arctic air, not the hyperborean frigid conditions that can sometimes occur when the air flows across the North Pole from Siberia", AccuWeather senior long-range meteorologist Dave Samuhel said.

We'll have a brief break from our unsettled weather on Saturday before the second storm arrives Sunday and early Monday. While temperatures will begin to warm slightly at the end of the weekend, expect overnight lows Friday and Saturday to fall into the teens.

Two to four inches of snow and ice - or more - is projected to hit the midstate during during hours-long Monday storms, forecasters said. Minor snow accumulations are possible. This storm is expected to diminish as it moves over southern Ontario on Sunday night.

Thursday got off to a cold start, with morning temperatures reaching as low as 23 degrees in Chatham, 21 degrees in Boston, 18 degrees in Worcester and 19 degrees near Springfield, according to the National Weather Service. However, by this time previous year, we were already at 35 inches of snow.

For today, expect sun and clouds with highs 39 to 42 degrees.
