The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is the only one so far to have received emergency use approval from the WHO.

Developing countries should have "the same access to vaccines as the rest of the world", Pfizer chairman Albert Bourla told a virtual press conference.

However, Pfizer and Germany's BioNTech said they would provide their vaccine to COVAX at an undisclosed "not-for-profit price". People who receive Covid-19 vaccines are supposed to be monitored for 15 minutes after the injection, with that period extended to 30 minutes for people with a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis. "COVAX is a truly global initiative and we are happy to support by making BNT162b2 available in many low- and lower-middle-income countries to help protect vulnerable people worldwide", said Ugur Sahin, M.D., CEO and Co-founder of BioNTech. The report notes that 61% of the Moderna doses were administered to women compared to only 36% of men.

He said Covax should be able to deliver those doses in the first quarter of 2021.

Pfizer has said it's been ramping up production and expects to be able to make 2 billion doses in 2021, up from its earlier forecast of 1.3 billion doses.

Asked about accepting Chinese and Russian vaccines into the Covax programme, Berkley said they would consider any vaccines, "assuming they add value to the portfolio", are proven safe and efficacious and have reasonable pricing and supply allocations.

- Pfizer and BioNTech have agreed to supply their COVID-19 shot to the World Health Organization's COVAX vaccine scheme, which is aimed at lower-income countries.

New American CDC data released Friday shows that just 10 people who've gotten Moderna's vaccine in the USA have had severe (anaphylactic) allergic reactions, among more than four million shots delivered.

All of the confirmed cases of anaphylaxis after administration of Moderna's shot so far were in women, which isn't a huge surprise when you consider that most of the non-elderly people who've been vaccinated in the US so far are healthcare workers, an industry which is 76% female.

"Vaccines are giving us all hope of ending the pandemic and getting the economy on the road to recovery", said Tedros.
