After more than four months of no grand winners, a Powerball ticket for Wednesday's drawing worth a cool $731.1 million was identified.

Friday's jackpot stood at an estimated $1 billion, which is paid out over a period of 29 years. The total jackpots could continue to increase depending on the number of tickets sold around the country before the next drawing.

The $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot has generated a lot of speculation about the best ways to spend that much money. It was not immediately known where exactly the ticket had been sold. The winning ticket was a Quick Pick, officials say. The ticket was sold at the Gulf Mart on Central Avenue in Pearl River, the New York State lottery reports. Eleven tickets matched five numbers, according to the Mega Millions website, including a pair of $2 million winners in Florida. To put that into perspective, the odds of being killed by a vending machine (however that would happen) are just 1-in-112,000,000.

Jackpot prize winners have the option to receive their winnings in 30 annual installments or as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $716.3 million. A player wins the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing.

The game is played in 45 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the US Virgin Islands.
