Winning $730 million Powerball ticket sold in Maryland

Neither the retailers nor winners are known at this point. One of those - sold in Hagerstown, Maryland - won $2 million because the holder bought a "Power Play" option, lottery officials said.

A victor of Friday's jackpot, if he or she took the cash option, would receive $739.6 million - before taxes.

According to Powerball, a ticket in Maryland hit all five numbers and the Powerball: 40-53-60-68-69 and Powerball of 22.

A large Mega Millions jackpot, meanwhile, is still in play.

The area is best known for being a place that used to depend on coal mining and now relies on strip mining for employment and support.

The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24 and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.

If a lucky lottery player wins, this will mark the second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history and the third-largest in US lottery history, Mega Millions lottery officials said.

The Mega Millions jackpot, worth up to $970 million has its drawing on Friday.

The winning numbers in Tuesday's $865 million Mega Millions drawing were 10, 19, 26, 28, 50 and Mega Ball 16.
