James reportedly gave the family the eight-month-old pup, who is Lupo's nephew, as a gift after Lupo passed away. One just happened to be Anmer Hall, where the Cambridges are now based during the pandemic. They were devastated when Lupo passed away.

The two, parents of Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, brought home a cocker spaniel puppy who was part of a litter of one of Kate's brother James Middleton's dogs, Luna, multiple United Kingdom outlets reported on Sunday, Jan. 24.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed the new canine into their family a year ago, just a few months before their first dog, Lupo, passed away.

Lupo's sister bred a litter of six puppies last summer while James and his fiancee Alizee Thevenet stayed with his pattern in Berkshire.

"The new puppy is adorable and the whole family are besotted", a friend of the couple told The Mail on Sunday.

At the time, Prince William was deployed to the Falkland Islands for six weeks on an RAF search and research mission, and it was said the Cocker spaniel helped the pair through the hard time.

The family will no doubt be hoping the new arrival has the same sweet nature as Lupo, who was its uncle.

Kate Middleton: New look of “working mom” and XL mane, the Duchess surprises

Larcombe continued: "Kate strikes that balance between bowing to her as head of the Royal Family in public but being able to check in with her as the great-grandmother to her children".

Kate and William will be celebrating the one decade since the Duchess of Cambridge won hearts across the globe when she appeared in her lace wedding gown at Westminster Abbey back on April 11 2011.

Meanwhile, royal aides have not yet confirmed the pup's name.

It is understood Kate and William had the pick of the litter, helped by Prince George, seven, and Charlotte, five.

In November, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge revealed their dog Lupo had died, saying he was "the heart of our family for the past nine years".

Mr Middleton has spoken of how dogs have helped him with his mental health.
