Tanaka is signing with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, the team he last played for before signing a seven-year, $155 million deal with the Yankees.

Throughout his seven year contract, Tanaka was considered a major pitching asset for the Yankees.

He then signed a seven-year contract with the Yankees after the Eagles agreed to make him available through the posting system.

In an earlier tweet, Tanaka said that he plans to explain why he chose to return to Japan at a later date. "It has been an honor and a privilege".

Terms of Tanaka's new arrangement were not promptly uncovered, however the group proclaimed the 32-year-old right-hander's get back with a "Welcome home our hero" declaration. "Thank you so much!"

Tanaka fought a mostly torn UCL all through his Yankees residency and began 174 games in pinstripes, with a 3.74 ERA and 8.5 K/9 proportion in the standard season.

While Tanaka stayed in the marketplace, NY traded for Jameson Taillon and signed free agent Corey Kluber. "What a great teammate he's been and what impact he's had on the Yankees, on the city". He went 78-46 with a 3.74 ERA over his Yankees career. "Obviously, I wish him well and will be following him". He had a 3.56 ERA in 10 starts in 2020.

Luis Severino should be ready to return at some point this season from Tommy John surgery last February 27 and Domingo Germán is expected back from a domestic violence suspension that caused him to miss last season.

March 11 marks the 10th anniversary of the massive natural disaster and tsunami that devastated northern Japan's Pacific coast, where the Eagles are based, so this season will be an emotional one for all involved.

After Rakuten announced the signing on Thursday, Tanaka thanked his fans with a heartfelt message on Twitter.
