Rapper Silento charged in shooting death of cousin

The 23-year-old rapper has been arrested by authorities - yet again - this time, for the murder of his cousin Frederick Rooks.

Rapper Silento - best known for the hit 'Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)' - has been charged with murdering his cousin.

The rapper, whose real name is Ricky Hawk, is now being held in the DeKalb County jail.

According to Lieutenant Rod Bryant, police responded to a call after shots were fired in Panthersville, south-east of Atlanta, at approximately 3.30am on January 21.

According to XXL magazine, the 34-year-old victim was found bleeding heavily after suffering gunshot wounds to his face and leg in a suburb of Georgia, US.

Silento rose to fame in 2015 with his debut single Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae). He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A DKPD investigation later identified Hawk, 23, as the suspect, police said.

Police said they now working on determining the motive for the killing of Frederick Rooks.

Silentó was booked into jail on Monday and is now being held there on a murder charge, jail records show.

Silentó had a history of legal trouble, having been arrested in August 2020 following a domestic disturbance.

In October, the rapper was arrested for allegedly driving 143 miles per hour on Interstate 85.

He's been releasing music ever since - and his most recent release, Swish, was released on 28 January 2021.
