Bringing back memories of the 1986 Miami Shootout, a suspect has killed two Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and wounded three others this morning in a shootout in Sunrise, Florida. Two wounded agents were transported to hospital and are in stable condition.

In a separate statement, FBI Director Christopher Wray identified the slain agents as Special Agent Daniel Alfin and Special Agent Laura Schwartzenberger.

Police officials said that the gunman, a man suspected of child pornography possession by FBI investigators, had barricaded himself inside the apartment before opening fire on the agents.

"Two FBI Agents are deceased and three are wounded", the FBI said.

Gen. Monty Wilkinson was briefed on the shooting and was closely monitoring the situation, a Justice Department spokesperson said.

"The FBI will always honor their ultimate sacrifice and will be forever grateful for their bravery".

Law enforcement officers formed rows outside the entrance to the Broward Medical Examiner's office, saluting as a stretcher draped with the US flag was wheeled inside.

The gunfire erupted about 6 a.m. with about four shots fired, said Julius McLymont, whose house borders the Water Terrace apartment complex in Sunrise, Fla.

The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) offered condolences to those injured and said the search warrant was in connection with suspected possession of child pornography.

McLymont said he couldn't see the apartment where the shooting happened from his location. "We continue to stand by our FBI Family, and the families of these Special Agents, in the days to come, bringing every resource we can to get through this together".

The FBI confirmed in a statement Tuesday that two agents were killed in the incident.

The suspect has also been killed.
