Takumi Minamino joins Southampton on loan

The player has scored only on four occasions in 31 matches since switching to the Premier League with him never able to get an extended run in the club's playing 11.

Southampton completed the shock loan signing of Japan global Minamino from Liverpool with hardly any time remaining in the transfer window on Monday night. The 25-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds on deadline day to tie up his transfer from the Championship club and bolster Jurgen Klopp's defensive ranks. It is for that reason that they refused to let Neco Williams go out on loan.

'If he [Klopp] felt that he was of any use then he would have kept him there.

The Reds did bolster their defensive ranks hurt by injuries but at the same time, they lost a bit of depth in their attack with the departure of Takumi Minamino as the Japanese worldwide moved to Southampton on loan for the rest of the campaign.

"So he is there for 17 games now I think, in the situation Southampton are in if Takumi stays fit he has a good chance to play 17 games, which helps everybody".

Minamino's arrival allows Shane Long to depart the club for Bournemouth on loan, as the Cherries are looking for a replacement for Josh King after they verbally agreed deals with Everton and Fulham for the Norway worldwide.
