Biden had pledged in December to reopen "the majority of our schools" in his first 100 days but has since faced increasing questions about how he would define and achieve that goal, with school districts operating under a patchwork of different virtual and in-person learning arrangements nationwide.

There will be "repercussions" for China for its human rights violations, US President Joe Biden warned on Tuesday, outlining a tough but more nuanced continuation of the Trump administration's hardline policy towards Beijing.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, told CNN prior to the town hall that the general public likely won't have access to the vaccine until May or June, pushing back earlier estimates that the vaccine would be available to all Americans by April. Authorities should "move them up in the hierarchy".

"For four years all that's been in the news is Trump", Biden said.

During the White House press briefing Wednesday, Psaki, referring to vaccinating teachers, said "neither the president nor the vice president believe that it is a requirement".

BIDEN, asked about assertions from the White House that at least one day a week of classroom schooling would deliver on his reopening pledge: "No, that's not true".

He also took a question from a teacher, who stated his belief that schools all need new ventilation systems before they can be opened. "Teachers should be a priority", Harris said.

Throughout the House impeachment process and the subsequent Senate trial, Biden largely kept quiet about the proceedings and emphasized instead his focus on his sweeping $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package.

"There's things I would do by itself, but not at the expense of saying I'm never going to do the other", he said.

In other words, Congress has to approve a stimulus bill in order for schools to safely get teachers back into the business of teaching as opposed to scarfing down bonbons while binge-watching Netflix videos. More than 55 million doses have been administered.

Mr. Biden touted his administration's work to procure more doses of vaccine, which at one point he said "we didn't have" when he took office.

Mr. Biden said he is prepared to use his executive powers to eliminate $10,000 in student loan debt for all borrowers, but not $50,000-an idea that has gained traction among Democrats on Capitol Hill. Mr. Biden also said white supremacists, whom he called "demented" and "dangerous people", pose the greatest domestic-terrorism threat in America.

Biden's comments, during a CNN town hall in Milwaukee, marked his clearest statement yet on school reopenings.

With this in mind, Biden said if people keep wearing masks, social distancing, washing their hands, and getting vaccinated, Americans could expect a normal Christmas this year He explained, "It's a high probability that the vaccinations that are available today - and the new one, Johnson & Johnson, God willing will prove to be useful".
