The first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to a small group of Australians ahead of a broader rollout tomorrow.

"We need more vaccines, more vaccines will solve massive issues", said Doug Ford, Ontario's premier at a news conference in Toronto Friday.

The vaccine's journey from the Pfizer plant in Belgium was handled by pharmaceutical company Pfizer and DHL, a leader in the logistics industry, under a joint partnership for the global transportation of the vaccine.

Meanwhile in Queensland, hotel quarantine workers, border staff and frontline health workers will be informed of their eligibility for vaccination via text message.

Health Minister Greg Hunt says the vaccines are safe for all.

"These people are among the most exposed to infection risk. It's hard for majority to follow infection control measures", junior health minister Andrei Baciu told AFP.

Despite the still alarming figures, it could be an uphill struggle to get some vaccinated as scepticism remains entrenched.

"Please, for yourself, your family, your community, this country, take the vaccine when it's your turn and it's available".

Hunt said there "was a very strong focus on the need for key leaders, not the Parliament, not the Cabinet, not even the leadership group, but a cross-party group, to provide that confidence".

And with vaccines yet to reach the majority of people nearly everywhere, countries continue to resort to familiar methods to limit infections. It's not clear whether they also pretended to be senior citizens to get the first shot.

The province also reported 508 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, for a total of 75,835, along with six more deaths.
