Several armed bystanders successfully stopped a shooting spree that left three dead, including the suspect, in a New Orleans suburb.

In that case, police responded to reports of possible gunfire and found both victims dead in a vehicle outside an apartment building on Yale Street. "Three individuals were pronounced dead on the scene, and two more were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The two transported victims are in stable condition", read the official statement.

After exchanging fire with "multiple other individuals", the shooter also died, it said.

It's unclear if the good samaritans are employees of the gun shop or customers.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said deputies were dispatched shortly before 3:00 Saturday afternoon to a report of a shooting at the outlet on Airline Drive.

All three suspects are believed to now reside in North Korea, a country that has no extradition treaty with the US. The victims included Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.

Guns and ammunition are sold in the front of the outlet that faces a main thoroughfare through Jefferson Parish. Staff who work there often wear a sidearm.

None of the dead or wounded were immediately identified and details remained sketchy. Lopinto said that the investigation was continuing as authorities sought to determine exactly what occurred.

A man walked into a gun range and outlet store with a loaded weapon unholstered and an altercation ensued, according to local media.

"We are trying to put it all together and piece it together from what we have in this developing scene", Lopinto said Saturday at a press briefing outside the store. A neighboring Taco Bell had been evacuated.

Metairie, Louisiana is located about five miles away from downtown New Orleans.
