Shelby County Government begins search for new health director

The Laurel County Health Department, which is now only issuing weekly COVID-19 updates, announced Monday that nine additional COVID-19 deaths had been reported between Saturday, Feb. 20, and Sunday, Feb. 28.

They report three new COVID-19 cases in addition to the deaths since Friday with the county's total cases increasing by 5 to 1,910 and active cases increasing by 3 to 33.

There are now 4,464 active cases of coronavirus in the province, with public health monitoring 8,210 people across B.C. who are in self-isolation due to COVID-19 exposure.

At this time, 275,681 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 83,777 of which are second doses.

Island Health has identified the locations of 303 active cases, including 188 in the Central Island, 71 in the North Island and 44 in the South Island.

"Of the active cases, 236 individuals are now hospitalized with COVID-19, 65 of whom are in intensive care".

There have been 18,349 COVID-19 cases reported in Clark County since the first local cases began to appear last March.

Lexington's hospitals have felt less of a burden as a result of recent case decreases. There were 475 people being treated in intensive care units for COVID. The state has reported more than 2.28 million confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic and 42,936 total fatalities.

In an email to his parliamentary party, Varakdar outlined seven key steps the Government are taking over the coming months as part of their Covid-19 plan. The province has now recorded 158 such cases, including 137 of the B.1.1.7 variant first identified in the United Kingdom and 21 cases of the B.1.351 variant associated with South Africa. That's a decline of more than 1,400 from a week earlier.

In Region 9, which includes Lake and McHenry counties, 84% of ventilators remain available and 31% of ICU beds are available. Active community cases increased to 49.

Henry and Dix also credited the shorter timeline on Health Canada's approval of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which they said will mean "more people will be vaccinated more quickly". "Let's ensure we are continuing with our efforts until we get there", the statement concludes.
