As of Monday, the seven-day average for deaths from COVID-19 in Texas stood at 228, a higher level than when the state's mask mandate went into effect in July.

"This must end. It is now time to open Texas 100 percent", he said to cheers and applause from his audience. The new rule, however, states businesses are allowed to "limit capacity or implement additional safety protocols" and won't be barred from requiring employees or customers to wear masks.

Journalist David Gura noted the pandemic in Texas is even worse than when Abbott finally invoked the COVID-19 restrictions.

"Unless otherwise prohibited from doing so by the state, I would expect masks to be required in any shared spaces at all Waco ISD campuses and other facilities through at least the end of this school year". "Vaccines to protect Texans from COVID", Abbott added. And now they're going to have to talk to people that come in, and to people that didn't want to wear masks in the first place.

Referring to Abbott's order on masks, White House COVID-19 adviser Andy Slavitt told CNN: "I hope the governor rethinks this".

In all honesty, I'm anxious about the people in our state.

AVATT earlier secured more than 270 million doses of AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Johnson&Johnson vaccines. News reports the first recipients are due to be healthcare workers.

Now, local residents fear the thousands of tourists who will probably descend on the state, just in time for Spring Break. MS also lifted its face-covering order on Tuesday. So now, there will be more infections, one would think. "Now we are putting our focus toward rapid vaccine distribution".

And while 50 Cent doesn't live in Texas, he frequently pops up in the state to promote his liquor brand, Branson Cognac.

According to a Reuters tally, roughly 68,240 new cases have been reported on average each day this week, or 27% of the peak daily average reached on January 7.

The US has recorded over 515,000 Covid-related deaths - far more than any other country.

Abbott also said that businesses in the state will be able to open at 100% capacity starting next Wednesday.

"We have made incredible progress in recent weeks and months, and I thank our business community for their ongoing commitment to saving lives", Lightfoot said in a written statement.
